World Mission Sunday - 2018

One Sunday for the Whole World

On this World Mission Sunday, Pope Francis calls all of us - children of God - to be "voices for mission."  Today we "speak up" through our prayers and financial help to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for our brothers and sisters in the Missions.

Mission Prayer

You have given all peoples one common origin,

and your will is to gather them as one family in yourself.

Fill the hearts of all people with the fire of your love
and the desire to ensure justice for all their brothers and sisters.

By sharing the good things you give us
may we secure justice and equality for every human being,
an end to all division,
and a human society built on love and peace.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Propagation of the Faith

The Diocese of Salina participates in the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter the Apostle, and the Missionary Childhood Association.  These organizations are for spreading a deepening awareness of the universal mission of the Church and to inform Catholics of the life and needs of the Catholic Church in the Missions.  It is a means to encourage prayer and financial help for the mission churches and for the support and education of the seminarians in developing countries.

Our involvement in these efforts are through the universal World Mission Sunday Collection held on the next to last Sunday of October every year and in the visiting Missionary Cooperation Plan of inviting men and women to the diocese to appeal for the needs in areas where their communities do missionary work.  The appeal for the Society of St. Peter Apostle is held as part of the Missionary Cooperation Plan.

Our office is able to assist missionaries and other priests by sending the extra Mass stipends which are made available to us by parishes of our diocese.

Missionary Cooperative Program

Missionary Cooperative Program

Since the whole Church is by its nature missionary and the work of evangelization must be held as a fundamental duty of the people of God, all the Christian faithful, conscious of their responsibility, are to assume their part in missionary work. (Code of Canon Law, can.781)

The Diocese of Salina participates annually in the Missionary Cooperative Program (MCP).  Through the MCP, donations directly assist missionaries in their efforts to evangelize, form holy vocations, build congregations, and propagate the faith in various countries around the world.

The Diocesan Propagation of the Faith office selects mission groups from a large pool of mission dioceses, religious orders, and lay missionary groups who live and evangelize all over the world to come and speak to our faithful in order that each and every one of the Christian faithful may be fully acquainted with the present condition of the Church in the world, and may hear the voice of the multitudes who cry "Help us!" (cf. Acts 16:9).

It is our sincere hope that the faithful may feel this mission work to be their very own, and may open their hearts to such vast and profound human needs, and may come to their assistance.
